Background: “Brain Network Stability” – the brain’s capacity to communicate among its regions – has been established as a new biomarker of Brain Aging and Cognitive Decline. Older brains tend to exhibit lower Brain Network Stability, and lower network stability predicts cognitive decline.
Results: Healthy human adults were given carbohydrates or a ketone ester drink. The carbs decreased Brain Network Stability, whereas the ketone ester drink increased Brain Network Stability. These data are consistent with the general understanding that ketones are a more efficient and cleaner fuel for the brain than carbohydrates.
